All about daddy

A friend from Saskatchewan is back in town and came for a visit today (and tomorrow). Her, Kaelynn, daddy and I took a trip out of the house together. And today was all about daddy.
Daddy rode in the back seat of the car with her, and wasn't the one to put her in her carseat. Daddy was the one pushing her in the cart while mommy and friend looked at shorts. Daddy was the one giving her French fries when we had lunch. Daddy was the one to buy her a new toy. Daddy was the one that spent all last night pushing her in a tiny wagon.
Instead of getting crappy take out, we hit up Dennys for a bum change and lunch. She was chair dancing and stabbing my ice cubes with my straw. Random old women came over to talk yo her, say she was a good girl, and they didn't even know a baby was in the restaurant with them. She loved her French fries and the lemon wedge from my water.
Wal-Mart did not have the fish food my friend needed, so we stopped in at PetsMart. She was loving looking at all the fish and the HUGE cats. When our cats go to the Rainbow bridge, we're thinking about fish. She helped carry the container of fish food to the cash- tripping a few times and even putting it in the shopping baskets at the end of each aisle. When we got to the cash, she grabbed a pink raccoon dog toy and was in love with it. She laughed every time she squeezed it. Daddy forked out $2.25 in change for it, and said he would regret it later if she kept squeezing it. Unlike toys made for babies (Sophie) that she can't make squeak, she can make it squeak.
I have a feeling she's decided to drop to one nap a day. Even though we were gogogo, there was time at 11am to nap like normal..but she didn't. She didn't nap until 6pm, and then I woke her up for late dinner. She was back asleep after playing in bed with us at 8-9pm...and now I must move her so I can snuggle in.

Barefoot in dirt

Today was FINISH THE GARDEN day.
Kaelynn stayed home with daddy while I made a quick trip out to Wal-Mart for more dirt and plants to fill in the new bed. She was a very good girl, even with her not wanting to nap or cuddle.

Daddy finished adding the soil and I broke up and placed where I wanted them all to go while Kaelynn supervised. She took a break to help me exfoliate my legs and dig in her own section of dirt. Daddy let her touch and hold a huge worm, I was less than impressed. I understand they're good for the plants I love, but GROSS.

15 month check up

This morning, we had our 15 month well baby check up. It went as well as I expected.
She did not want to be naked/ weighed/ measured. She did not want to let the doctor look and feel around in her mouth. She put up with the stethoscope.

When we discussed her teeth, the doctor has to call a pediatric dentist and will be in contact with us. She doesn't know what we really can do, aside from waiting. When I've googled, they can do xrays (but even in Canada, I'd have to pay out of pocket). There was no concern about her not knowing animal noises, but it's something we should work on.

We decided to vaccinate against chicken pox, and she was a trooper until the end. She was either staring at daddy or the doctor, at one point her arm twitched when the needle was being removed and she started to cry. It didn't last long, and she didn't even need milkies.

I was making her 18 month appointment (one hour long, bejebus) and daddy was getting her ready, trying to as Kaelynn stared at a babybaby. She came to me with her arms out to put her coat on, I told her to bring her head to daddy for her hat, then she came back to me to do it up. Smart kiddo.

Even if she's not really stacking blocks, talking up a storm, or entirely knowing her foot from her nose, she is learning useful skills: she tidies her own messes, understands when we want her to bring us stuff (and gets it right sometimes), and is enjoying being a free range baby.

Height: 29"
Weight: 20.7lbs

15 Months old

     Yesterday, Kaelynn turned 15 months.
She is loving life and food, despite having no teeth.. She is eating everything, usually double fisting crackers too.

She seems to have forgotten her words & replaced them with "dad dog" which I think is "bad dog", and "dodododododododo" all while making ducklips.

She is still running around everywhere and trying to get into everything. Every time we go out the back yard play, she wants to run to the park. She loves the swings and slide. I can't wait until it's actually warm enough for her to play in the tiny pool we have.

Mother's Day 2014

Happy Mother's Day to all the mama's out there.

This morning, I woke at 7:30am and had baby snuggles. I came downstairs & a shiny new Tassimo and chai tea greeted me. Figuring out the machine wasn't so simple, it took me 3 presses of the button to fill my cup.

Yesterday, I come home from mother's day with my mom & I find that a garden was planted around the tree. I love getting flowers that won't die after 3 days (with luck). Speaking of flowers, at the mall, I ran into a beautiful mama that gave me some carnations she had and today while at Metro for milk, the cashier gave me a single one.
To go with my garden, in the backyard, I also received a gnome to go with my patio set. I could put it out front, but I have a fear of things "walking away". I am so surprised that the start of my fairy garden is still there.

3 days in

We are now 3 days in of wear on my complimentary set of Broadway Nails imPRESS manicure from Influnster. Today, I also had to remove them.
I knew that being a mom, I would be putting them to the test. They survived dishes, diapers, laundry, being knicked with a knife while chopping onions (oops), they did not survive opening a stroller tray. While at the mall, I hit my nail on the lock of the stroller tray. Everything looked fine, if not a little dented underneath. A few hours layer while going to the bus, I noticed I could lift it off my nail. I decided to remove all of them, instead of finding a replacement nail from the remaining ones in their case.
To remove them, it's supposed to be as simple as lifting from the sides/applying nail polish remover to the sides. I tried this and it felt weird and mildly hurt. Instead, I filled my remover cap up and soaked for 20 seconds: removal was super easy now.

This product would be fantastic for a night out or a special event. That is one reason why I searched out what the colours we have in my town. I have decided to purchase the short French manicure ones for a wedding I am in this summer. For everyday mom life, not so fantastic.

First Influenster Box

Today while checking the mail, I got a fantastic surprise: my very first Influenster box. I did the preliminary survey online, but like the last time, I thought nothing would come from it. Introducing imPRESS manicure by Broadway nails.
I open the box & inside are two packages of press on nails. I couldn't wait to try them.
*find the correct size for your nails
*arrange them in order
*cleanse natural nail with provided prep pad
*remove backing
* apply firmly, with your thumbs last
To apply the thumbs last is a fantastic idea, you're going to be using your thumbs to peel off the backing (which is not easy, but you know the glue is strong) and using the styrene of your thumb to press down.
I have never worn fake nails, so this is new for me. I know that before the week is out, I will hopefully be used to them. Currently, doing stuff is awkward and I seem worried about breaking them.
I am curious to see how well they survive my busy life as stay at home mom to a toddler. They have managed to stand up to lots of hand washing and 1 diaper change so far.
I asked my partner how they look and he said he has no ideas about nails. I asked my sisters in law how fake they look, and she said they look "bought", as in not home done.
What do you think?!

Getting Fit

I am not trying to get fit for the good looking body, I am trying to get fit for the good looking baby.
I want to be able to run and play with her. I don't want to be the fat mom, I don't want to be on the side lines all the time. I would like to be able to enjoy time and not be out of breath.
Through the power of the internet, I have connected with many different moms. There is even a mom work out group on Facebook. Currently, we are doing a 30 day ab challenge. I looked in the moreover today, and even after 6 days, I think I see ab defining happening. I try to get my work out in while Kaelynn is still sleeping, but sometimes she likes to help (pushing me down, climbing on me, hitting me in the face with toys). She is a great personal trainer. I am really impressed that I was able to do 40 sit ups, 20 crunches, 20 leg lifts and 30 second plank. I will (attempt) to get to 200 sit ups.

Today, a friend and I took a 5 hour walk. Half the time, I was babywearing and the other half she was in the stroller. I even managed to fit in a quick run for the bus (which was a dump truck the same colour from over a hill and far away). During the run, or maybe I left it at Loblaws (I bought a stevia plant) I lost my bank card. Someone turned it in and it got cancelled. I found this out while trying to monitor my account online and I could not log in. More proof there are good people (or I'm just very frazzled and needy looking) an elderly man offered to help me off the bus when I was on my way to my friends house and while running for the bus, a woman pulled over to ask if I was ok and then giggled at me when I said I was running for the bus.

Bribes win battles

I don't care what anyone says, bribes are good for babies. I sit on the floor of my daughter's room as she plays in her crib. This is a MAJOR improvement from even last night.

Last night, she was super hyper and refusing to sleep or even settle. I brought her to the crib and she had a freak out. I sat on the floor and read to her. She started to settle down once Woody or Molly told her what to do. At about 11pm, I gave in. She came to bed, nursed, and slept til 9am.

This afternoon, we're playing in the crib. Lights are fully on (even though they don't need to be). I brought with us a bowl of puffs (or as I call them "baby bribes"). She got upset when I went to go to the bathroom, but realized she had snacks and promptly dumped them to eat them. For the past 30-40 minutes (I've not really kept track), she's been playing by herself as I write letters, check emails, text, and take picture proof.

This makes me a happy mama. This makes me think "maybe tonight?!"
